The Challenge
NUVO are moving into a new office space due to expansion. NUVO Burton’s new office required a comprehensive electrical and technological upgrade to meet the growing needs of their workforce. The key challenges for this project included:
- Reconfiguring the Office Layout: Existing lighting and power systems had to be repositioned to accommodate the new office layout, ensuring that all areas were properly illuminated and equipped for work.
- Data Infrastructure: A robust and efficient data network was crucial to ensure seamless communication and modern business operations, requiring the installation of multiple data points and patch panels.
- Workplace Technology: New systems—such as HDMI connections for presentations—needed to be integrated into the office design. While kitchen extraction and HVAC are not classified as workplace technology, their associated power supplies also had to be carefully incorporated to ensure all systems were safe, compliant, and efficient.
The project needed to be completed on time with minimal disruption to NUVO Burton’s daily operations.
The Solution
We provided a comprehensive solution to meet all of NUVO Burton’s requirements:
- Lighting & Power: The team installed and repositioned light fittings to suit the new office layout, including six new switches in key areas such as the directors’ office, boardroom, and hot office. RCD protection was added to existing circuits for enhanced safety.
- Small Power Installations: 21 floor boxes were relocated to align with the new desk configurations throughout the space. Additional power points were added in the kitchen and reception areas, with RCD protection ensuring safe and efficient operation.
- Data Infrastructure: A new 29U comms cabinet was installed, along with 66 Cat6e data points connecting floor boxes throughout the office. Two single Cat6e data points were also wired for TV locations and Wi-Fi zones. Three 24-port patch panels were fitted, and the new data infrastructure was fully tested.
- Workplace Technology: We installed an HDMI connection between the boardroom TV and a floor box, enabling seamless presentations and enhanced video conferencing capabilities.
- HVAC & Kitchen Power Supply: The electrical supply for HVAC systems was upgraded, including a 25-amp single-pole supply for the outdoor unit and a 5-amp single-phase supply for the kitchen vent fan and equipment.
We ensured all installations met the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and modern design.
The Result
CJ Timms successfully delivered a fully functional office fit-out that met all of NUVO Burton’s requirements. The outcome was a modern, efficient, and safe office space that fully supports the company’s operations. Key results included:
- Optimised Lighting & Power Systems: A well-planned lighting layout and additional power points provided a safe and flexible working environment.
- Reliable Data Infrastructure: A high-performance data network ensured stable communication and fast internet—essential for day-to-day operations.
- Seamless Workplace Technology: Boardroom tech such as HDMI integration improved productivity during meetings and enabled efficient collaboration.
- Improved HVAC Efficiency: Upgraded power supplies ensured the HVAC system ran smoothly and energy-efficiently year-round.
The project was completed on schedule and with minimal disruption, giving NUVO Burton a forward-thinking workspace built for future growth.
