8 Reasons Why You Should Switch to an EV

We’ve all heard about EVs over the past few years, maybe you know a few people who have made the switch themselves or still don’t truly understand what an EV is. But have you ever considered the benefits of buying an electric vehicle for yourself? Maybe after reading through our list of 8 benefits of electric vehicles, you’ll see why EVs are the way to go in 2023!

      1. Cleaner and greener

The green credentials of an electric vehicle are the biggest benefit for us, making a difference toward the planet becoming a safer, greener place to be. If we’re talking technically, EVs have no exhaust, meaning electric cars produce zero carbon dioxide emissions whilst driving! In fact, after only one year, just one EV on the roads can save on average 1.5 million grams of carbon dioxide! That’s well over a ton in weight!

      2. Pay no road tax

Who likes saving a bit of money here and there? Well, making the switch to an electric vehicle sets off a long chain of savings, with road tax being one thing you’ll start saving on. If your electric car is pure battery, it will be exempt from paying Vehicle Excise Duty, more commonly known as road tax! If you have a hybrid vehicle though, you’ll still need to pay your road tax because of the traditional fuel leading to CO2 emissions. But don’t be put off by that, as you’d still benefit from a lower rate than traditional full petrol or diesel cars.

      3. Save £513 a year on fuel

Wave goodbye to the widely dreaded trip to the petrol station. Instead, you could charge your electric vehicle from the comfort of your own home with your very own home charge point. We at CJ Timms specialise in the installation of some of the best EV charging points on the market, to homes and businesses across Derbyshire and the Midlands. Without the need to fill your new car up with fuel, the savings on petrol and diesel are set to be immense! To put these savings into perspective, for the average British driver who drives 7,600 miles per year, around £1,288 would go towards petrol. For someone with an EV, doing the same number of miles in a year, electricity for home-charging would cost just £775 per year, meaning a yearly saving of around £513 (according to NimbleFins)! What’s not to love?

      4. EVs are a low maintenance option

Typically, electric vehicles are low maintenance vehicles compared to petrol or diesel-run cars. But why? Put simply, it’s because they don’t have an engine! With hundreds of working parts in a combustion engine, there’s lots that can go wrong, plus the likelihood that parts will need replacing over time is pretty high. The worry of engine faults soon shrinks when you make the swap to an EV!

      5. Save £s on the cost of maintenance and servicing

Not only is it less of a worry, but it’s also less of a cost too! With less to go wrong or to need replacing, maintenance costs drop massively when you own an electric vehicle. Maintenance costs for an EV can be as much as 50% less than a regular car! Regular cars are renowned for needing parts replacing regularly, and with less to go wrong with an EV, the need to replace or repair reduces. Another huge saving that can be had with an electric vehicle is a reduction in the servicing of an electric car, when compared to a traditional car. Of course, the type of car will make a difference, but research shows that an electric car costs at least a huge 30% less to service and maintain!

      6. Avoid Clean Air Zone charges

If you’re a regular commuter, and need to travel into London, Bath, Birmingham, Norwich, Oxford, Portsmouth or Manchester, you’ll likely be familiar with the Clean Air Zones. Having a battery electric car though, or a hydrogen fuel-cell vehicle, makes you exempt from the Congestion Charges you’d usually face! As an example, the standard daily cost for the London Congestion Charge is £15, another cost you can avoid by going electric.

      7. EVs have loads of cool extras!

There’s loads of extras squeezed into most EVs! Being packed full of gadgets makes them truly stand out as cars ready for the future. From additional safety features to keep you safe, to fun gadgets that make your experience a little bit more pleasurable are all smaller reasons that might persuade you to go electric.

      8. Enjoy a more pleasurable driving experience

Many drivers who are used to diesel or petrol cars might not think it, but maybe EVs are more pleasurable to drive. Being so much quieter, due to literally no engine noise, your trips can be much more peaceful and stress-free with a more silent experience.
